Civita

Civita is a charming town surrounded by hills in the Pollino National Park where still living traditions and folklore. Here you can still hear the people speak ‘s Arbëreshë, the language of the founders turkish-Albanians who fled the Ottoman occupation in the fifteenth century. Traces of this culture, protected and recognized by the Italian state, are everywhere. To retrace the history you can visit the Museum of Ethnic Arbëreshë, listen to the typical traditional songs, Vjersh, or try the succulent recipes that still adorn the tables of civitesi. The imprint is evident even in the Eastern church of Santa Maria Assunta, where you can witness the celebration of liturgical services in greek. Above the main door is located a mosaic of St. Blaise, Bishop Martyr, Patron Saint of Civita.

Surrounded by a majestic landscape, Civita has a view of majestic rocky mountains, softened by greenery, which start to show the Ionian Sea. With a nature so generous, here you can spend days discovering unspoiled wonders. Suspended in a vacuum is the Devil’s Bridge, then the State Property Timpa, also admired the B & B Magara, as Gorges Raganello lapped by crystal clear fresh water and little waterfalls.

In these areas of the Pine grows Calabria Loricato: a plant with a proud carriage. Its bark is divided into plates of armor similar to those of Greek soldiers: The Lorica (a name which refers precisely this detail). There is not the same as another example, are erected on all trunks uniform.
